AtelierALZ
Based in Montreal, Atelier ALZ is an independent design studio and creative practice that explores the intersection of visual arts and object design. The atelier is recognized for its distinctive approach to material exploration, with a specific focus on the creative potential of reclaimed and overlooked materials.
By reinterpreting the history of matter, Atelier ALZ transforms discarded elements into singular, non-standardized pieces that challenge the norms of mass production. This philosophy values imperfection, memory, and the narratives shaped by time and use, resulting in a poetic and engaged alternative to conventional industrial design. The studio's portfolio features a diverse range of works, including the Thalie lamp, where fabric dipped in resin creates a unique form defined by gravity, and the Ava side table, an elegant synthesis of wood and textile. Other notable creations include the Camille pouf, the Judie pendant lamp, and the Delphine steel vase.
Each project represents a dialogue between structural control and the spontaneity of raw materials. The work of the studio is characterized by a pursuit of authenticity, blending artisanal techniques with a subtle interplay of form, function, and narrative.
